Anti-glare vs privacy screen film
Both anti-glare and privacy films are multi-layer PET films cut to a specific bezel. The difference is the optical layer. Anti-glare uses a micro-textured matte coating that scatters incoming light so the panel doesn't act as a mirror. Privacy uses a micro-louver layer — thousands of tiny vertical blinds — that limits the viewing cone to roughly 60°, so anyone more than ±30° off-axis sees a dark screen.
On rugged laptops, the practical question is where the device is used. Field crews running a Toughbook 55 outdoors will get more value from anti-glare; mobile clinicians, patrol officers, or auditors handling sensitive data on a Getac S410 will get more value from privacy. Anti-glare also helps fingerprint visibility, which matters more on glossy semi-rugged screens than on the matte LumiBond panels Getac and Panasonic use.
Both films preserve touch and stylus on the digitizer layer as long as they're cut for the model. Generic films cut for consumer laptops can sit slightly proud of the bezel, which traps dust and degrades touch accuracy near the edges over time.
