How we verify fit
Step 1 — Source the actual device
Rugged Books refurbishes Toughbook, Getac, and Dell Rugged hardware every day. We pull a representative unit of every model we support (including revisions — Mk1 vs Mk2 chassis matter on the Toughbook 55) before sourcing the accessory.
Step 2 — Physical fit check
The accessory is installed on the real device. Bezel cutouts are checked against the panel; case cutouts are checked against every port, sensor, hand-strap mount, and the docking connector. We measure overhang and clearance with calipers if it's tight — most generic accessories miss by 0.5–2 mm.
Step 3 — Functional test
For films, we verify capacitive touch, stylus input, and (where applicable) glove-mode response. For cases, we install and remove the device from the OEM vehicle or desk dock to confirm the case doesn't block the connector. For batteries, we run a full charge/discharge cycle and confirm the firmware handshake reports correct chemistry and capacity.
Step 4 — Field sample
Where possible, a sample ships with a refurbishing customer for a real shift. Field feedback (touch lag near the bezel, port flap interference, vehicle-dock latch issues) is logged against the SKU. If two sample shifts report the same issue, the SKU goes back to the supplier.
Why generic accessories fail
Rugged laptops are not standardized form factors. A "fits 14\" laptop" film, case, or sleeve assumes consumer geometry — flat bezels, recessed ports, no hand-strap mounts, slim chassis. None of that applies to a Toughbook 55, Getac S410, or Dell Latitude Rugged. The result is overhang at the bezel, blocked ports, or a case that won't seat into the dock. Model-specific is the only honest answer.
